Most people don’t know that just an hour and 30 minutes away from Las Vegas there’s a small ski resort that will give u all the winter feels from the safety of 60 degree heat. Lee Canyon is an amazing little spot to get ur winter on. Here’s some travel tips to help you make the most of your trip!
WHAT TO DO: First thing is book parking in advance. You can buy tickets at the ticket counter for everything else. Rental equipment is $49. Lift tickets which everyone will need if you get on the lift is $79. If you have never been skiing or snowboarding I would suggest getting lessons, they are $79 for up to four people. Totally worth it. I love Aaron but I’m sure all the other teachers are great. Tips are appreciated for them!
SAVE MONEY TIP: if you can’t tell it’s a little expensive. I know it’s a pandemic and a lot of us need free options, so here ya go. There is a small park just before you reach the canyon. You can bring chairs and inflatable tubes and set up shop. Bring your dog, some snacks and just hang.
FOOD& DRINK : They have a cafe and restaurant that are decent however my favorite spot was the second floor bar and not just because it was the only place you could get an actual alcoholic mixed drink not in a can. You can actually watch people ski down the slope from the bar. Amazing view and indoors. The food well. Don’t expect gourmet but it’s good.
WHAT TO WEAR: if you have never been just so you know you will get wet! Here’s what to wear to stay warm and dry. Wool socks is a must, if you don’t have them just double up. Snow pants, you can get black overalls at Dicks for just $35 bucks, as seen in the picture above. If you want to use what you have anything that is water proof will work. Make sure to put tights underneath yoga tights work great! A hoodie and a light jacket will work also. Gloves is a must! Remember you can strip off clothes but you can not go back home and bring more clothes. PRO TIP: Perfect trip to bring that Fanny pack you never used for Id, money, sanitizer, and etc.
It’s a great escape from the crazy Las Vegas streets. If you go let me know what you thought!
About a 3 hours from Denver, Colorado I recommend this for an upcoming girls trip/Bach party/birthday ect. I went during the Off Season (which i highly recommend), because I would be the first one to plant face first on some skis. I stayed at the Sheraton Hotel soon to be bought out by another chain hotel. The location was great, connected to everything that you would want to do while your there. The weather was amazing, the scenery phenomenal! The people are so nice, you know its like pulling teeth getting people to say hello back to you in Vegas, here the vibe is friendly and welcoming!! Lots of cool places on the Yampa River.. great place for not only skiing but all outdoor activities.
TOP THINGS TO DO:
1 Gondola Ride- Must Do; hit up the Happy Hour On Sunday it was awesome w live music seating is a problem if you have a big group but people are so friendly you are welcome to join tables.
2 Fish Creek Falls – We saw the waterfall and hiked about 1/2 mile it was awesome! very serene and beautiful I suggest it!
3 Strawberry Park Hot Springs – amazing place totally instagram worthy only problem is… NO SERVICE. its natural so if you are looking for super clean blue ocean waters this is not for you its slimmy. but a great experience.
TOP PLACES TO EAT:
Mountain Tap Brewery – Pizzas and small plates, great fresh foods.
Top of the Gondola – I had the happy hour food it was amazing the shrimp cocktail was delicious and huge, the caprese salad was good wish it had some balsamic but other than that i was very happy w it!
Aurum Food & Wine – “top rated” restaurants in Steamboat, with executive chef Patrick Funk. First, the service was terrible. I ordered the Crab Crusted Halibut, with Black Pepper Crudi, Wilted Spinach, Bacon Lardons, Heirloom Tomato, pickled Mustard Seed Parmesan and Clam Broth, for $41.00 along with the Corn Chowder Soup. The Soup was terrible, runny, not the consistency you want a chowder to be… even it was a tomato chowder. The Halibut was okay, cooked great hated the accompaniments, dint like how soggy the the Crudi got in the Clam Broth…
STEAMBOAT VIBES I LOVED:
My family and I really enjoyed it, most things you could walk to, being from Vegas we don’t see much green but the scenery was amazing! I loved the emphases on health, mind, body and spirit. It is a great place to have a bachelorette party with your closes besties. Theres tons to do and see, in a quieter off season.
JoySticks!! – love them they are made by Gardenom they are all natural I personally used mine like a honey for my coffee and i love all things.. trendy and cool! they also have calm sticks both contain CBD
Humble Bee Botanicals – I got there loose tees called Happier Days. I love it and the price was right super cool super delicious teas. another trendy buy i couldn’t live without!
There are amazing local bakeries and soda fountain shops! they exceed even the fine dining! They also offer amazing Chai/Herbal Teas – Kombucha, stuff like that.. if you love birkenstocks, Lulumeon, patagonia and morels this is the spot for you LOL!
Def Bring your Hiking Boots & Cash (Some Places only Take Cash). Over all a great place to go for a few days to get away!
Hopefully the quarantine in your city is finally getting ready to let up however with a few more weeks or months here’s some productive apps and learning tools to help you get better during quarantine. There are tons of free learning tools to help you in your industry. I use these tools to help, and I do not have a partnership with any of them, nor am I paying for any of their services currently.
Edx: You can download this to your phone, they have classes from Harvard and other different Universities. They also offer some free classes if you are interested in taking classes and not receiving a diploma.
Khan Academy: My bestie is a doctor, well she will be in like a month and she swears by this site! Her online tudor and a great place to learn.
Create & Cultivate: a woman’s organization that supports small business. They have a paid subscription however, they offer free services as well.
Guest of a Guest: New York based website with everything you want to know about whats popping in the city!
DoLA: LA based website that has everything you wanna know about lifestyle, things to do, places to go, yummy food to eat!
Hope that helps, I will update with more, and feel free to let me know if you have any of your own sources that are helpful.
As if it wasn’t hard enough to date as a millennial, now in quarantine its so much harder. As Millennials, we are not tied to the standard timeline of our parents, we are waiting longer to get married and have children, but to wait until after the never ending quarantine seems impossible. Heres some positives and easy ways to find your “lobster” during this pandemic.
If you want to date, date. If your uncomfortable being in person with people use social media. Everyone knows someone that has gotten married from a dating site. Download them all don’t let the world make you feel thirsty, we have the time to right now to actually meticulously look for your perfect match.
Do not be afraid to make the first move. If you find someones personality stimulating on Twitter, why not take your shot you miss 90% of the shots you don’t take. Have confidence, know what you have to offer and be available and open to your blessings. If he/she swipes right or slides in your DM’s. Give them a chance. What do you have to lose. Maybe you wont fall in love with that person but that person can connect you with someone you will.
Social distancing can be good for a relationship in many ways. If you have just started dating it gives you a great chance to get to know one another. It feels more like in middle school, when you would fall asleep on the phone together or argue about who should hang up first. You don’t have to get NS-17 with anything just really get to know someone on an emotional level.
With the future so uncertain it is hard to begin something new or even want to, however this is the perfect time to start a relationship in my opinion. Now is a chance to understand what is important to someone. Are they out every night with no mask and partying, and is that what you want? Or are they at there parents being safe and learning to cook, is that what you want? What do you want for your future. Finding someone with similar values as you is easier in a pandemic because you are more apt to discuss things of that nature.
Its a true test of love, but don’t get down and keep your eyes open for your blessings!
Heres some cool things to do at home for NYE safely social distanced and COVID free!
1 – Make a Charcuterie & Watch a Television Celebration. I am geared towards Carson Daily’s but pick your poison plenty of things on tv to watch. A charcuterie is a fun way to have an appetizer. Place an assorted amount of cheeses, meats, grapes, apples, peanuts, and crackers on your middle table in your living room and hang out!
2- Dont forget the Champagne & Party favors! DO IT! This is what we have all been waiting for, head to your local grocery store and grab some festive glasses and party hats. Dont forget the champagne for midnight with your sweetheart or yourself.
3- Make Chocolate covered strawberries. These are so easy and so fun to make, grab your favorite chocolate dip from any store, and if you dont want to do that you can make your own easily, melt some chocolate add a little butter and BOOOM, Done!
4- Grab some fresh lobster and steaks. Head to the butcher!! It is worth it to have a great steak and a decent lobster. If you have an air fryer/instant pot even better they are quick; add a baked potato and brocolli and BOOM done. Looks like a lot of work but so easy!
5 – Amazon music and lighting. Hit the lights and tell Alexa to play your favorite hits. If you’ve followed traditions use your christmas lighting to add a special romance or party scene.
Those dog costumes are so expensive! So I decided to find a cheaper way to try and get my dog in a costume. I went with a taco so here it is- STEP 1: Get (2) tan, red and green felt. Tan for the taco shell, red for tomatoes or salsa and green for lettuce. STEP 2: cut tan felt into a taco shell shape. Or a square with curved corners. STEP 3: cut the red piece into a wave.
STEP 4: cut the green pieces into zig zags.
STEP 5: layer the pieces. STEP 6: stuff the taco shell with old crumbled papers.
Sew it together I sewed a ribbon To connect them here’s the final product. All in all $3.00
Hot Springs: Alkali Hot Springs is the closest but there are a ton to choose from. Some are hard to get to but this one is relatively easy and relaxing.
Boulder Beach: On the coast of Lake Mead, a man made beach great for most of the year! You can take your dog to a portion of the park; grill, camp and rent accommodations. Be prepared to back your car up into a rocky beach. You can also rent boats/jet ski’s, grab something to eat and drink at the restaurant.
Lake Las Vegas: Beautiful sights along the man made lake. Outdoor dining, light shopping along with lake activities like kayaking and paddle boating. There is a Hilton and Westin with decent restaurants inside.
Mission Hills Trail: Almost into Boulder City there is a trail called mission hills trail that you can walk, bring your animals, park in the parking lot and head on your way. Lots of traffic at this spot great place to meet up with a group.
Boulder City: Historic Boulder City is a must. The Pit Stop has the ultimate burger for any traveler, I suggest getting the turkey burger with sautéed mushrooms and fries. If your into breakfast you can go to the Tea Cup – a restaurant featured on the Food Networks Diners Drive-ins and Dives. Do some antiquing and then head back home.
Bars & Restaurants
Golden Tiki: Dive bar, but awesome drinks and a good atmosphere. Very different from the strip.
American Italian Club: Such a great atmosphere for dinner. You should dress up when going here. its the perfect old school place to have a wonderful dinner.
Gamers Paradise: This is actually a store, with old video games in it. Its really fun to look into the past if you get a chance might as well.
Hugos Cellar: Wonderful and expensive. Worth it if you hit a casino for an extra $200.
